Today we will talk about the princes of the country with the flag of Wales. You know who they are?
Keep reading and we will tell you more about the Princes of Wales: William and Harry.
Prince William
Let's start with Diana's eldest son, the Prince WilliamWilliam Arthur Philip Louis was born on 21 June 1982 at St. Mary's Hospital in London, United Kingdom. He is the eldest son of Prince Charles (now King Charles III) and the late Diana, Princess of Wales. Since his birth, he has been regarded as a key figure in the British monarchy, as he is first in line to the throne of the United Kingdom.
In his youth, William was educated at several prestigious institutions, such as the University of St Andrews, where he studied Geography and graduated with honours in 2005. It was at this university that he met his current wife, Catherine Middleton, whom he married in April 2011 in a televised ceremony that attracted the attention of millions of people around the world.
Since their marriage, the couple have had three children: Prince George (born 2013), Princess Charlotte (born 2015) and Prince Louis (born 2018). With their children, William and Kate have sought to maintain a balance between public responsibilities and family privacy. They have chosen to reside at Kensington Palace, and also spend part of their time at Anmer Hall, a residence in Norfolk.
In terms of his royal duties, Prince William has taken on several key responsibilities in the royal family. He has been a spokesperson and advocate for several humanitarian causes, including mental health, conservation, and supporting homeless youth. Additionally, he is the founder of the Earthshot Prize, an award aimed at promoting environmental initiatives.
Throughout his life, William has received several titles and honours. In April 2008, he was made a Knight of the Order of the Garter, one of Britain's oldest and most prestigious honours. He has also held several military ranks, including Flight Officer in the Royal Air Force (RAF), and has worked as a search and rescue helicopter pilot.
Prince harry
On the other hand, we have William's younger brother, the Prince harry, whose full name is Henry Charles Albert David. Harry was born on September 15, 1984, and over the years has stood out for his charisma and his focus on causes related to the welfare of those most in need.
Harry attended the same schools as William during his childhood, such as Wetherby College and Ludgrove School. His education continued at the Eton College, where he developed a particular interest in sport and outdoor pursuits. After completing his formal education in 2003, Harry took a gap year which he spent in Australia and in Africa, where he worked in an orphanage in Lesotho.
In 2005, Harry entered the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, where he was trained as an army officer. In 2006, he was commissioned as Second Lieutenant in the Blues and Royals Regiment of the Royal Household Cavalry. His military career took him on two missions in Afghanistan, which made him the First member of the British royal family in armed conflict since 1982.
Over time, Harry also took on diverse interests in different humanitarian causes. He is the founder of the Invictus Games, an international competition for wounded servicemen. This initiative has highlighted the positive impact of sports on the physical and mental rehabilitation of veterans.
In his personal life, Harry has been the protagonist of several notable events. In 2018, he married American actress Meghan Markle at St George's Chapel in Windsor Castle. Together they have two children: Archie Harrison (born 2019) and Lilybet Diana (born in 2021).
Harry and Meghan's marriage garnered significant attention, marking a new era for the British monarchy with the diversity and modernity that Markle brought with her. In 2020, the couple made the decision to step back from their roles as "senior" members of the royal family, causing a significant rift with the monarchy. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have since relocated to the United States and founded their own nonprofit, Archwell, to support various social causes.
The relationship between the two brothers has been a topic of debate in recent years, especially after the publication of several interviews and Harry's autobiographical book, SaveIn the book, Harry recounts tensions and disagreements with his older brother, highlighting key moments that have affected their relationship, such as disagreements over Harry's marriage to Meghan and differences over his role within the royal family.
Despite persistent rumours of a final split, both William and Harry have made it clear on several occasions that they continue to share a deep affection for their mother, Princess Diana, and for the duties that each, in their own way, continues to perform to support humanitarian causes around the world.
The brothers have faced situations of great media tension, such as at the funeral of their grandfather, Prince Philip, and the coronation of King Charles III in 2023, where they were seen together but still distant. Efforts at reconciliation have yet to reach a clear resolution, but the family bond and shared memories continue to be part of their story.
Currently, William and Harry are following very different paths. While the former is preparing to take on greater responsibilities as the future king, the latter has chosen to focus on personal projects and causes from his life in the United States.
Both remain prominent figures in the world's public opinion, each marking their own unique path, but always under the shadow of their shared legacy as children of Princess Diana.
The world is still watching for any hint of a possible reconciliation between the two brothers, who, despite their differences, remain important pillars in the contemporary history of the British monarchy.
